Between 2014 and 2016, Painted Brain hit a huge spike growth, creating amazing partnerships with notable companies such as Corbis, launching several vocational programs, supporting skills in photojournalism and software programming, as well as increasing our social media presence by 2000% within the first 8 months of initiating our development team. This gave our community a double up on production and strengthened the bond between contributors, driving more diversity and change in the conversation about mental illness. The increase of activity and community naturally led us to better organize communication using BaseCamp as well as creating manuals, curriculum, and workshops, supporting media content development, to expand our outreach.
Every day, Painted Brain staff moderate the social media messages, answering the many inquiries that hold a general question always leading to, “How can I get involved?”. In Painted Brain’s infancy, so much of its growth came from individuals that wanted to lead and reflect their vision using the Painted Brain platform to voice their concerns and publish their art, writing, and poetry. Before 2012, our social media following didn’t exist as we were primarily pushing publications through our magazine subscription, called the “Painted Brain Magazine”. One of our goals in the near future is to revive the magazine using eco-friendly recycled paper to continue the culture our community fostered.
