Painted Brain at Mayfield Senior School

Friday, December 2: Painted Brain speakers Jane and Brette, along with our director Dave, gave a moving and emotional talk to 3oo high school young women at Mayfield Senior School in Pasadena.  Dave offered the crowd a review of Painted Brain’s mission, programs and intentions along with the ways in which his own history with depression interacted with his desire to become a social worker and create a program like Painted Brain.  Brette talked emotionally about her own experiences as a student struggling with mental illness at a high school similar to that of the audience.  Jane played clean up with an impassioned talk about what she has learned from her own life history with mental illness and gave a real rabble-rousing talk about the power of women and the potential leadership in the room with us.  All this from a stage recently designed for the Shakespeare play 12th Night.
