I’m sending blood back: a poem

I’m sending blood back

I felt purpose, I felt movement

And with my back to the wall

I felt like everything I did mattered

And money, like a river’s water, came and went

And people, like a river’s water, came and went

And comfort, like a river’s water, came and went

To delta ends and feeling spent

But nothing feels like when it hits

But life feels like nothing when it hits

And I’ve pointed guns for that

Yeah, I’m afraid I’m always one inconvenience away

From a fleeting moment with God on repeat

David Catoe is a Texas-born young poet presently living in the Gobi Desert where he earns a living as a scuba diver. His work appears sporadically here in Painted Brain News.
