Comedy Cures: Painted Brain Hosts A Comedy Relief Night

LOS ANGELES, Calif.- Painted Brain, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit that focuses on the importance of mental health, is organizing a Comedy Remedy night on Wednesday, October 10. The event’s purpose is to raise awareness about suicide prevention through giving a voice to individuals impacted by mental illness. The night will provide a safe place for people to connect, heal and laugh with individuals who have overcome the obstacles of mental health challenges.

While most people stray from the topic of mental health, Painted Brain prioritizes the discussion of it by using comical aspects in order to create a comfortable, tolerable and positive awareness to the issues. The two hour show will feature three comedians: Dana Eagle from AGT, Thomas Dale from HBO and Nick Vatterott from Conan & Comedy Central; each of the individuals will speak openly about his/her struggles with mental health, such as feelings of isolation, by using humor.

“Laughter is the best medicine.” This saying has circulated the world for a solemn reason: it is true. Laughter is known to have physical health, mental health and social benefits- which is why Painted Brain has chosen comedy as the genre of the show. The idea is for people to share laughs on topics that are severely dense and disheartening to converse about- suicide and depression. By constructing a place where the community can engage in an informative and raw night through comedic storytelling, Painted Brain hopes to encourage its audience to discuss their challenges.

Painted Brain is a nonprofit organization that strives to generate a revolutionary change about the stigma of mental health. Its mission is to create lasting community-based solutions to mental health challenges and the impact of social injustice through arts, advocacy, and enterprise. The Comedy Remedy Night starts from 7:30pm- 9:30pm at El Cid on 4212 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90029. Tickets are on sale for 20 dollars. For more information on Painted Brain or Comedy Remedy Night visit www.paintedbrain.org or contact Kevin Naruse at paintedbrainmedia@gmail.com.
