Painted Brain Speaks Out Against Sexual Violence

April is sexual assault awareness month and Denim Day is April 26th, 2017.  In support of sexual assault awareness month and to honor survivors, Women’s Day at Painted Brain would like to show support for survivors.  A little bit of background on Denim Day.  Years ago, a woman took a cab and was raped by the taxi driver.  Upon having her case tried, the Italian Parliament found the taxi driver not guilty citing the woman’s jeans were very tight and she must have helped the driver take them off, therefore, this could not have been rape.  The following day all of the women of Parliament wore denim to the courthouse in a show of solidarity for the victim and as a protest against the insensitivity and injustice of the situation.  Painted Brain will be painting t-shirts with empowering statements written on them, as well as addressing and discussing stigmatizing beliefs held by many in society.  In addition, those who are interested can come and join us at the Third Street Promenade for Peace Over Violence’s rally and free concert featuring Aloe Blaac and Maya Jupiter at 6pm on April 26th, 2017.
