Here, at Painted Brain we believe in raising up all disenfranchised communities. We as a community continue to see a need for women to have safe spaces to come together to discuss and explore women’s issues. Among mental health consumers, men dominate in numbers. This creates an atmosphere that can be uncomfortable for women because of sexist behaviors and services that do not meet their needs.
As pioneers and mental health activists, we have opened our doors to a women only day every Tuesday from 11AM-5 PM. Painted Brain’s Women’s day will provide women with an opportunity to discuss, create, and unite through several groups including poetry, illustration, and writing articles for PB News. The contributors of women’s day will be able to run their own groups and participate in discussions on what it means to be a woman in today’s world.
In the words of Secretary Hillary Clinton:
“Human rights are women’s rights, and women’s rights are human rights. Let us not forget that among those those rights are the the right to speak freely, and the right to be heard”
