Painted Brain proudly announces that long-time leader and co-founder Rayshell Chambers has been named our Executive Director.

Under Chambers’ guidance, PB plans to further grow and enhance our vital services throughout the Los Angeles County region and beyond to serve residents of California with cutting-edge evidence-based behavioral health services combining licensed professionals and peer supporters.

PB’s innovative approach ensures every individual receives the care that best supports their growth, including peer support services, group counseling, occupational therapy, educational certification courses, reentry services, or a combination.

Under Chambers, PB is also a leading peer voice in California, supporting the development of ground-breaking policies and programs that serve individuals, such as implementing electronic Psychiatric Advance Directives.

Chambers has been involved in behavioral health and human services since 2006, including as a governor-appointed Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commissioner for the State of California since 2022 and Co-Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer for Painted Brain since 2016.

Chambers has dedicated herself to addressing complex public policy issues and administrative barriers to care. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, which she pairs with her own lived experience to bring her innovative vision to fruition.

Painted Brain creates lasting, community-based solutions to mental health challenges and the impact of social injustice through arts, advocacy, and enterprise.

We offer services through various grants and self-pay, and we will soon be accepting Medi-Cal insurance for enhanced care management and community support services.
